From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
