Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced allegations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the couple's 24-year age gap.

The court issued conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.

A persistent unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's identity.

Their lawsuit states that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.

Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his lycée.

The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
